Alloway Supports Final Passage of Legislation Protecting Good Samaritans

HARRISBURG – The Senate unanimously supported legislation today that will extend protections for Good Samaritans who take action to save lives in an emergency, according to Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33).

Senate Bill 351 will expand the state's Good Samaritan law to grant civil immunity to businesses and property owners who acquire and maintain an automated external defibrillator (AED) to aid victims during an emergency. The bill also protects individuals who provide first aid to victims of crimes or accidents.

"Current law provides a serious deterrent for bystanders to take action to save lives during an emergency," said Alloway, who cosponsored the measure. "Good Samaritans should not have to worry about possible legal consequences that could result from their noble actions."

Senate Bill 351 was approved by the Senate and the House of Representatives and will now be sent to the governor's desk to be signed into law.
