Senator Alloway Supports Decision to Freeze Vacant Judgeships
HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) announced
his support for the recent decision to freeze vacant judgeships across the
Commonwealth to control costs to taxpayers.
Alloway and Senate Republicans joined
Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald Castille in calling for all
current vacancies to remain open in light of the $1.3 billion deficit in this
year’s state budget.
Governor Rendell recently announced that he will not
nominate any interim judges to fill the remaining open seats on the Courts of
Common Pleas due to the state’s financial situation.
"It is important for the General Assembly to
look for any and all ways to save taxpayer dollars in every branch of
government," Alloway said. "The state should see a significant savings in
judicial salaries by waiting to fill these vacant seats until the economy
improves."
