Senator Alloway To Introduce Resolution to Reduce Senate Operating Expenses
HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) announced
today that he will introduce a bipartisan resolution to reduce Senate operating
expenses.
The resolution would amend Senate Financial Operating Rules
to replace the current per diem system with a new system that would require
Senate members to submit receipts for reimbursable expenses. The reimbursement
rates would be capped at the maximum rate allowed for federal tax purposes.
"The Senate has taken broad steps toward providing stronger
accountability and transparency in state government, and this is the next
logical step to protect taxpayer dollars," Alloway said. "This step would truly
allow taxpayers to see where every penny of their money is spent, and I am
confident this new system would result in significant savings to the taxpayer."
"This is a standard business practice," Alloway said. "I
don’t know any company that allows you to submit a claim without any proof that
you spent money on that item. It shouldn’t be any different in the state
legislature."
The resolution, Alloway said, has already garnered support
from a few of his colleagues.
Alloway will introduce the bipartisan resolution with
Senator Andy Dinniman (D-19). |
