Alloway Reminds Dog Owners to Apply for 2010 Licenses

HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) is reminding local dog owners to apply for a 2010 dog license to help protect their pet.

All dogs three months or older must be licensed in accordance with state law.  The license fee is $8 or $6 for a spayed or neutered dog. Owners can also choose to purchase a lifetime license for $51 or $31 for a spayed or neutered dog.

Alloway said that dog owners can contact their County Treasurer for more information on dog licensing.

"Getting a dog license not only helps the Department of Agriculture to protect more animals, but also it often helps to return a lost animal to its family," Alloway said.

Licensing fees support the Department of Agriculture Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement’s mission of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of dogs. During 2009, more than 930,000 dogs were licensed in the state.
