Alloway Urges House Leadership to Work Toward Finalizing State BudgetHARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) is urging House Democratic leaders to do their part to finalize the state budget after weeks of cancelled meetings and House inaction on remaining budget items. While the governor and legislative leaders have agreed to engage in meetings to resolve the remaining differences on the authorization of table games and appropriations for state-related universities and other non-preferred appropriations, House Democratic leaders have not engaged in negotiations and skipped both scheduled meetings the past two weeks. The Senate passed all of the non-preferred appropriations in early October, as well as three different gaming reform proposals that would pave the way for the authorization of table games. The House has not taken action on these items and has not indicated their plans for legislative activity when they reconvene next week. "Senate Republican leaders and the governor have both called on the House to do its part to complete the budget as soon as possible, and it is puzzling why House Democrats are refusing to take part in negotiations," Alloway said. "Our work on this year’s budget is not finished, and I believe House leadership should make the completion of this year’s budget a higher priority." | |
