Alloway Votes to Remove Costly Local Government Mandates
HARRISBURG – Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33) voted to remove several costly
mandates for local governments to reduce costs to taxpayers during today’s
Senate Local Government Committee meeting.
Alloway voted to approve the following bills in committee:
- Senate Bill 168, legislation that would allow boroughs to
participate in electricity generation projects that could benefit consumers.
- Senate Bills 317, 318, 319, 320, 321, 322, 323, 324, 325, 326 and
327, legislation that would adjust the levels at which contracts and purchases
are subject to competitive bidding.
- Senate Bill 419, legislation that would allow local governments to
electronically publish public notices and legal advertisements required by law.
"A number of these mandates serve no real purpose other than
creating additional costs for taxpayers," Alloway said. "It is vital for
government at every level to cut costs as we deal with the current recession,
and I am hopeful that these bills will ease the pressure on our local
governments and taxpayers."
The bills will now go to the Senate floor for consideration.
