Relocation of Mont Alto State Park Latrine

MONT ALTO, PA. – The dilemma of moving a latrine from near the entrance of Mont Alto State Park has been resolved after meetings between State Senator Richard Alloway II (R-33), officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and concerned citizens.

"They were at a standstill.  I made some calls to Bruce McFate, the Park Manager, and others at DCNR," Alloway said Wednesday. "They were very understanding and wanted to make this happen for the community."

"I’m thrilled to hear that.  This really distracts from the entrance," said Carolyn Poffenberger of Waynesboro, PA, who was among area residents trying to find a way and the money to get the structure moved. "The 23-acre park is Pennsylvania’s oldest state park", she said.

"I just want to thank everyone involved in getting this situation remedied," said Denny Monn of Mont Alto, another area resident concerned about the location of the latrine.

"I’m just glad to help the Borough of Mont Alto in this project to make Mont Alto State Park a more inviting place for visitors," said Alloway. "The relocation of the modular structure will be done with existing DCNR funding" he said.
